Many brides ask us how to get great bridal photos – my answer has always been as long as you’re comfortable with the dress and its placement such as the concerns about the dress getting dirty. Some of the images we created for Michelle reflects not just our photography but her willingness to literally lie down on the floor in order to get the image that she wanted to have.

Since it’s getting really hot Texas, I thought it’d be a good time to show a bridal that I photographed with another amazing and very talented Austin wedding photographer and photojournalist Pam Hults for her client, Megan in early March this year at the Four Seasons or Shoreline Grill grounds in Austin, Texas. We have been talking about doing a joint bridal session with two primary photographers for some time and decided to try out the concept together. Both of us are in a group of referral photographers for weddings since we photograph with similar styles of documentary wedding photography.

As a primary photographer, you’re tasked with providing your client a certain set of images and of course, the pressure is on. For bridal portraits, this meant a significant amount of time is used to do the traditional and classic set of imagery. While, if there were two primary photographers, one can be tasked to do the standard set of images, and the other person can simply be as creative as he or she wants. We thought it’d be a good thing to try out and here are the results from what I photographed. Pam’s beautiful bridal session for her client can be seen here.

I think it’s really neat that both of us photographed the same scene as you can tell from her session and mine, and we get different images. Particularly the swan photo and the one with the Congress bridge as a framing background. I think this adds a lot of value to the session to have two main photographers shooting the same session. Who knows, we might offer it as a new bridal session at some point in the future!

By the way, please don’t try to do this bridal session at this location in the middle of the summer (or anywhere outdoors, really). You will melt in 100F heat. I think it was a cool, 85F degrees weather in March. You want to be relaxed for your bridal session and in the summer it meant cooling off in an indoor location and not outdoors for as much as you can.

Christa's Bridal at the Stoneleigh Hotel, Dallas, Texas

I’m about to post Christ and Kyle’s wedding in the next blog, but here is Christa’s bridal session at the Stoneleigh Hotel in Dallas, Texas. They will also have their reception at the Stoneleigh, but more on that in the next post.

Located in the uptown area of Dallas, the Stoneleigh is a historical building/hotel which offers a spectacular penthouse and view on top of the hotel along with a very nice ballroom. Christa made it look easy but it was actually extremely warm – the session took place in August just before their wedding.

We actually went back and did this again because of the gorgeous light. That dress is simply amazing.

Page’s Bridal at Arlington Hall at Lee Park, Dallas, TX

We went to Arlington Hall at Lee Park in Dallas Texas, which is modeled after General’s Lee’s home in Arlington, Virginia, for Page’s bridal in July. Page is married to Wes in August (blog coming next!) so here are some of her photos from her bridal.

Amanda's Bridal at the Sonterra Country Club, San Antonio, Texas

Tracey's Bridal, Wildflowers in Texas, Texas Old Town, Kyle, Texas

Tracey has just gotten married and I have been really wanting to share the bridal online for quite some time since we did it early April. She really wanted wildflowers and in the end, we chose her wedding place, Texas Old Town for the bridal. Here are a dozen of images from the session.

The session took place in middle-to-late afternoon and to be able to do a portrait like these in the mid-day sun, we would require some heavy light(s) and then drag it across a barb-wire fence….

Jennifer's Bridal, Salado, TX

Jennifer and Les got married last Saturday, so I can now proudly show her awesome bridal images

I did a wedding a long time ago in Salado, TX and always wanted to go back for a session – I love the small town feel that Salado gives and there are just many different places that you can have a fun bridal session in. I was really excited when Jennifer asked me whether Salado would be a good place for a bridal session.

We decided on a sunny (and rare this year) Sunday in October for the session – her maid of honor Courtney came to help her out with the dress.
