Anna and Henry met in Taiwan in the same college.  They are avid volleyball players and majored in the same field, computer science.  After graduation, Anna pursued and received her master degree from University of Southern California and Henry got his master degree from the University of Texas at Dallas.   The couple moved to Dallas after graduation.  It’s a love story from Taiwan that culminated in the wedding at the Dallas Arboretum!

From the officiant’s words about how they feel about each other:

Anna thinks Henry is humorous, nice, and considerate. Henry thinks Anna is sweet and easy-going. Anna sees Henry’s true self, cherishes and respects that personality. Henry perceives Anna’s real need and takes care of her even before Anna’s awareness. Anna always be there as the other half for Henry. She pays attention to what he doesn’t. She supports him when he’s out there fighting. She always has his back. Henry always points Anna in the right direction every time while she feels perplexed. They enjoy every moment being with each other, discussing with each other, and working with each other.

You simply can’t ask for a better day to be married at the Dallas Arboretum as they had in the spring!

Some highlights of their day:

It was a really nice touch when Anna’s brother sang to the couple at the end of the wedding night in the Dallas Arboretum.

Due to privacy reasons, I won’t show you the images of the people at the company but only the details and the performances that took place.  Monica and Desiree did an amazing job as usual – definitely give them a call if you need corporate events or incentive planning.   I don’t think they do wedding planning, yet.   They have amazing Christmas party every year and it is really incredible the amount of details that go into it.  Here are a few highlights….

No details were missed, including one outside of the ballroom area on the entrance.

Ballet at a corporate event party?  You bet!

I was scared of the height after watching them do this for 15 minutes.  Incredible performances indeed.

Ceremony and Reception: Private home and Crow Collection of Asian Art in downtown Dallas, Texas.

Lien and Brandon met each other through the MBA program  at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas and enrolled in a class to learn about business in SE Asia, which culminated in a 10-day trip to Vietnam, Singapore and Thailand.    One interesting fact – Brandon went to Africa after graduation to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and kept in touch with Lien while she was still in school.    Brandon proposed to Lien in NYC inspired by the Amazing Race where she solved riddles which led her to some of their favorite restaurants in the city and proposed to her in Madison Square park.

They talked about doing a tea ceremony in the morning at her parents house, and then followed with a ceremony at the Crow Collection of Asian Art museum in downtown Dallas.

The couple session was photographed in the Stoneleigh Hotel where they stayed – a big thanks to the Stoneleigh for letting us use the top floor of their hotel!

Ceremony:  Highland Park United Methodist Church, Dallas, Texas

Reception:  Stoneleigh Hotel, Dallas, Texas

The raw energy at this wedding is simply incredible.  Maybe it has something to do with Texas Tech because that’s where Christa and Kyle met each other.

The day starts off at the Stoneleigh Hotel, then at the Highland Park United Methodist church for the ceremony and back to the hotel for the reception.  The Stoneleigh Hotel has a great view from the penthouse up on the top floor, which allows you to see the entire downtown Dallas area.

The wedding reception  was so full of energy, that after the wedding I ran into one of my clients for 2011 in the hotel with her fiance’ – she actually went up to check out the reception because she can feel the music a few floors down

The sweet details were planned by her planner, Margaret Johnstone of Precious Creations and a couple of images in the gallery is photographed by Ashley Langford who came out to help me out for a few hours.

Located in the uptown area of Dallas, the Stoneleigh is a historical building/hotel which offers a spectacular penthouse and view on top of the hotel along with a very nice ballroom.    Christa made it look easy but it was actually extremely warm – the session took place in August just before their wedding.

We actually went back and did this again because of the gorgeous light.  That dress is simply amazing.

Ceremony and Reception: The Omni Mandala Hotel at Las Colinas, Dallas, TX

Gita and Srinivas tied their knot at the Omni Mandalay Hotel after 2 days of celebration.  They’re both doctors (Gita has one year of residency left in Pediatrics in Houston and Srini is an attending neurosurgeon in Philadelphia).   From Gita about how they have met:

My best friend in the whole world got married last March. Srini and I met at their wedding and hit it off immediately. I was drawn to him even the first day and found myself coming up with excuses to talk to him or be near him (he says it was the same for him- hmmmmm). Anyway, we lived in different cities but started visiting each other as much as we could because within the first few times of being together, we knew we were soulmates.

It is difficult to come up with a blog post for an Indian wedding ceremony due to the complexity of the events.  The day starts off at 6 am in the morning, they got married at exactly 10:11 a.m in the morning (which would be evening in India – it’s astrological time).   Srini then ties a golden thread with a small coin around Gita’s neck (that’s the equivalent of a “ring” in western ceremonies).  The couple then plays a couple of games and walks around the fire as well as taking 7 steps together.  Then, they go outside and “point” at a star (in India time this would be 2-3 a.m in the morning).  The entire ceremony took about 6 hours to complete.  The couple then held a reception in the same hotel at night.

The talented Ashley Langford came by to help me out for the groom’s part as well as the ceremony.  He did an awesome job and some of the images below are taken by him for Ku Photography LLC.

The groom side played a game where Srini is supposed to go off to Kashi and the bride’s “brother” tries to stop him by telling him that he’d like him to stay and meet and marry his sister…

Behind the curtain – they’ll meet for the first time and put a paste on each other’s heads – that’s when they get married, officially, at 10:11 am.

Event:  Indian Sageet Party at the Omni Mandalay Hotel, Dallas, TX

The second day of Gita and Srinivas wedding celebration is, in one word, spectacular!  i have never seen so much colors in a wedding celebration before – and it complimented each other very well in the decoration – love the blue, light green, and pink combination as well as all the hues in between in the stage they have built.

Ashley Langford in Dallas came to help me out and did a great job!   Some of the images are his.

The event starts with Srini’s family greeting Gita’s family – and they played a game, a sing-off, to determine which side move to the other side first.  Later on in the evening, they’ll perform with songs and dancing – and they are very talented musicians to boot.  I can’t imagine Gita with her grueling schedule as a doctor in residency to have the time to prepare for the song she sang to Srini in this day.

She read a poem that is written about Gita and Srinivas:

This is Gita’s “brother” for tomorrow’s wedding – Gita doesn’t have a brother so he’s stepping in on the wedding day in one of the rituals/games before the actual ceremony.

Event: The Mehndi at Private Residence, Dallas, Texas

Two doctors in love.

Gita works as a pediatrics resident in Houston and Srinivas is an attending  neurosurgeon in Philadelphia.   Srinivas (Srini) brother married her best friend and they met last March at their wedding.

The wedding takes place over 3 days – the first day is the Mehndi where Gita gets her hands and feet beautifully painted in decoration and the parents meet.  The second day is the Sangeet Party, which is a pre-wedding ceremony.  The third day is the wedding day, where the couple will have a traditional South Indian/Telugu wedding ceremony.

Gita’s dad, also a doctor, acts as her wedding coordinator and seems like he’s constantly on the phone.

They had a short ceremony after the parents met:

Gita’s mom was very emotional throughout the entire three days.

Ceremony and Reception:  The Fairmont Hotel, Downtown Dallas, Texas

After celebrating for two days (Day One, Day Two), Ruchi and Ankit finally tied the knot!!!  (literally!)  If you have read the previous two blog posts, you’ll know that Ruchi and Ankit loves to laugh and have a great time – particularly on the dance floor as demonstrated in the Sangeet party on Day 2.  I knew after the second night, that the wedding day will indeed be something really special.

A little bit about how Ruchi and Ankit met, from her own words:

Ankit and I met in Boston while we were both in graduate school. We started out being pals, and while I thought he was hilarious and super smart, dating never crossed my mind. At some point during my second  year, I started thinking differently. His wit, kindness, and intellect were things that I really liked about him. We went on a date and have been laughing ever since!

The day began in the Fairmont Hotel in Dallas, Texas.  After getting dressed and doing a first meet of the day, Ankit will proceed to do a Barat, which is basically tradition where the groom arrives in a carriage/horse/etc, surrounded by his family members.  They’ll then meet the brides’ family, and enter the Mandap (the wedding stage) for the traditional Indian and Hindu wedding ceremony.

I was assisted by the fabulous Ashley Langford who was my second photographer for the day and he did a great job!  Some of these images in this blog are taken by Ashley.

I really love how close the families were.

Sometimes, the best moments are the unexpected ones.

They actually tied the knot, literally (while they were on stage)!

The transformation of the stage is simply amazing.

I have to admit, this is the best dancing groom, Ankit, that I have seen in a long time.

I’m still trying to figure out how Ankit and the groomsmen got into this position…..

This is my favorite picture – at the end of the night in the last song, Ankit kneels down to Ruchi, then Ruchi kneels down to Ankit in return.

Hazel and I knew Darcie and Tyler for quite a while now.  Hazel received her MBA from University of Texas and attended there from 2006-2008 – and Darcie is the first MBA student that we had dinner with in the summer of 2006 – they met in what’s known as  ”Preview Weekend”, where first year students came to Austin for a preview of what life is like as an MBA student and to get know Austin, etc.    As school started for Hazel, she came back the first day and said “Hey, there is a guy at school who is from Kansas, and he’s a fan of KU basketball!!”

Because Kansas is a small state (by population), meeting another Kansas Jayhawks fan in ANY other state is like meeting a family member!  And, as fate would have it, I met Tyler later on that week at what’s known as “Think and Drink” day on Thursdays, it’s an informal event, really, an excuse for the MBA students to get together in a predetermined bar in downtown Austin for socializing and drinking.

Hazel recalled that one day after she sends out one of our latest slideshows to her friends that Darcie said to her “One day when I get married, I’m going to get you guys to photograph my wedding.”

On their story – Darcie and Tyler actually lived in Chicago within 10 minutes of each other and have never met even though they frequented the same places in Chicago.   They’ve finally met each other in business school, in Texas.

Fast forward couple of years, and here we are.

We felt really privileged to be part of their special day especially since I knew Darcie and Tyler, separately at first, and then together.

The wedding takes place in a really nice catholic church – which by the way, they have no restrictions for us in where we need to be to cover the ceremony!   The reception takes place in the Surrey House and Gardens, which is a historical building near historic downtown of McKinney, TX.   Stacey Allen, of Elegance by Stacey Allen, did a great job planning this wedding.

This is my favorite picture of the whole wedding.  One of the hardest to photograph is to include many elements in the same frame and have them all related and in “order”  When I saw the women cramming into the sofa, I was really hoping that Darcie and Tyler would stand to next to them and hopefully, getting a picture where she’s having a great expression and with everyone on the sofa having the same expression as well and that was the image in my head before the photograph is taken – that’s one thing about being true to your cardinal rule of never place people or clients where you want them and not manipulate the scene, instead – it just has to happen, like fate (or a bit of luck ):
